Marshall University has announced the success of its fifth annual Day of Giving: 1837 Minutes for Marshall with a record-breaking $431,611 raised in support of various university initiatives.
This marks the highest number of contributions to date and surpasses last year’s total by more than $150,000.
“We are sincerely grateful for the tremendous generosity illustrated during this year’s Day of Giving,” said Nico Karagosian, president and CEO of the Marshall University Foundation. “Through the efforts of our donors, alumni, campus community and friends, we’ve achieved another record-breaking total. This is a true testament to the pride and loyalty shown by the Marshall family.”
Marshall’s Day of Giving, which occurred April 22-23 and hosted by the Marshall University Foundation, is a virtual, 30-hour event that invites Marshall supporters to come together to support scholarships, academic research, programs, campus priorities and the university’s greatest needs through online giving.
A total of 654 gifts were made during Day of Giving, with 454 individual donors participating. Areas of interest that received the most gifts include Marshall For All, the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the College of Education and Professional Development, the Lewis College of Business, the College of Science and the College of Arts and Media.
The event also included multiple matching gift opportunities, challenges and incentives designed to boost participation and increase donations. Challenges included funds for the university’s greatest needs, Marshall For All and the School of Medicine.
Thirty-four people registered to serve as Day of Giving ambassadors. Ambassadors inspire others to contribute by sharing why they love Marshall and why they give. Through their efforts, 138 gifts were made totaling $16,726. For the second year in a row, Shaunte Polk, director of access, connections and engagement for the Division of Student Affairs, brought in 36 individual donors, the highest number among the ambassadors.
The day also included stories of impact across the Marshall University Foundation’s social media platforms and Marshall followers were encouraged to participate in “Wear Green Wednesday” on April 22 to show support for the event while also being entered into a special giveaway.
“We’re so thankful for everyone who supported Day of Giving: 1837 Minutes for Marshall,” said Griffin Talbott, senior director of annual giving for the Marshall University Foundation. “The Marshall community continues to outdo itself year after year, and we are so appreciative of everyone who made this year’s event a huge success.”
